I am shocked and sadden to report the resignation of David M. Walker, Comptroller General of the United States and head of the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO). His resignation will be effective March 12, 2008.  He has accepted the position of President and Chief Executive Officer of the newly established Peter G. Peterson Foundation.CG Walker is a great and honest man, who has been willing to stand up to tell the truth about our country's financial position.  See www.truthin2008.org News Column for GAO's entire press release.

In these dangerous times, a person who resigns a position as head of the GAO--the top comptrollership job in the free world--because of integrity and love of country more merits praise. He has served his country honestly and outstandingly. I think he will do even better as CEO of the Peterson Foundation. God speed to this great man.
