Wake Up Accountants! - What Can You Do About Our $53 Trillion Hole

Sheila Weinberg, founder & CEO of the Institute for Truth in Accounting, is the guest blogger on the Association of Government Accountants (AGA) website for April 14.  Her blog is a follow up to former Comptroller General David Walker's article, titled "Wake Up, America."  This article appeared in the AGA's Journal, Winter 2007 issue.  Hon. Walker highlighted our country's $53 trillion financial hole and steps that people in Washington could take to solve this problem.  Ms. Weinberg's blog focuses on specific, simple steps accountants and financial planners can take to help provide the public with truthful information about the federal government's finances.  You can find Sheila's AGA blog here.  Please provide your comments.
 
Well, at this point, there is only one way out: the Hitler solution. After WW I, the national debt was crushing Germany. When Adolf Hitler came to power, he solved the problem in a matter of minutes: he just printed so much money that one young man said he heard about it on the radio and drove to town to remove his family's life savings from the bank. His family had been living frugally for 15 years, scrimping and saving everything they could to pay for his college education. He managed to use it to pay for a hamburger. There wasn't enough left for a tip. Or gasoline to drive back home.
